This month is all about the shock of the new with music from Richard Spaven, King Bee, Lil John Roberts, Fatima, Collective Peace, Matthew Halsall, Ambrose Akinmusire, Earlzinger, Toco, Janine Johnson, Chris Conway and Jesse Fischer. Also featured is Amplified Soul - the latest LP from jazz funk veterans Incognito who are currently celebrating 35 years as a group; this album is one of their finest yet.
The whole 'New Sound of ElectroSoul' has completely captured my imagination of late and is embodied by the record label known as DIGISOUL. I managed to track down the chief exponents of the genre, talented producer Soulpersona and gifted vocalist Princess Freesia in Brighton, where the pair reside, and we sat in the sun outside the nearest bar where they gave me the lowdown on their musical machinations.
