First show of the year and the quality quotient continues unabated. Great new LP's from David Lyttle, D'Angelo and trumpet player Duane Eubanks figure highly in the proceedings. David’s LP features collaborations with Talib Kweli, Jean Toussaint, Jason Rebello, Cleveland Watkiss and Joe Lavano so it has to be the one to watch.
There's another great track from itsinthestrings - a young producer from the US. We pay a further visit to Atlanta’s Dangerfeel Newbies who have really delivered with their latest LP Hariet.
Hugely impressed with the offering from 2014 Thelonius Monk music prize winner and trumpet player Marquis Hill whose LP Modern Flows is receiving plenty of plaudits so is worthy of inclusion this month. We highlight young UK talent in the guise of guitarist / singer Oscar Laurence. He is one of the young UK musicians which includes, Binker Golding, Moses Boyd, Theon Cross, Joe Armon-Jones, Max Luthert and Scarlett Stewart whom we expect big things from in the future.
We've also been digging in the crates with classics from Leon Ware, Quincy Jones, Lonnie Liston Smith, Carlos Garnett etc. We also have a haunting reinterpretation of Donald Byrd's Cristo Redentor from NYC's Ahmed Sirour, a talented composer and keyboard player, (accompanied by the trumpet of Farnell Newton).
