Welcome once again to another two hours of quality music. I looked at the best of the crop of new releases and found it hard to decide what to include as there is so much great stuff out there at the moment.
Ahmad Jamal has been described as one of the fathers of the modern jazz sound. With a career that spans six decades he has proven himself to be one of the most innovative exponents of the jazz piano still living. I feature one special track from his latest LP. Other pianists involved in this months show include the talented Michael J McEvoy, the gifted Mark Edwards and the sublime Herbie Hancock.
I adore the music of Sergio Mendes and seized the chance this month to feature three of my favourite tracks from him. Signed by Burt Bacarach to the Herb Alpert owned A&M records, he opened up the beauty of the bossa nova to the whole world for which we are forever grateful.
Real soul afficianados will appreciate the inclusion of the authentic down home soul sound of the seminal Stone Foundation who have set the benchmark for the rest to follow and more amazingly they're from the UK - new LP 'To Find The Spirit'. Also new Material from my fave UK funk outfit Smoove and Turrell and neo soul jazz crew the Duval Project. We've a track from the 'off the hook' new LP from my S'n'C bredren Nicola Conte and a mighty tune from the UK guitar don Femi Tomowo.
To cap it off new music from Jim Mullen and Bluey's outfit Citrus Sun, the ever brilliant Moonchild and potential grammy winner Jarrod Lawson - an LP which has the whole quality music world in raptures.
