In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:
Coltrane was a maverick, pure and simple. No doubts on that from all that’s been written about him. Creed Taylor was aware of this when he signed him to Impulse in 1960. By this time Coltrane was part way on his spiritual journey from ‘Blue Train’ to ‘Love Supreme’ via ‘Giant Steps’ and ‘My Favourite Things’ and was open to ideas. Creed, who took on the producer role, suggested the use of a big band for the first release. The result was the seminal but lesser known LP ‘Africa/Brass’ which featured Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Elvin Jones and McCoy Tyner. Our heritage track is the stunning ‘Greensleeves’ from this release.
As well as something from the long awaited new offering from The Robert Glasper Experiment we have new music from Killiam Shakespeare, Australian Ross McHenry, latin music man Edwin Sanz, gifted guitarist Charlie Hunter, Dan Costa, Sampa the Great, and young US talent Masego.
