Last month seminal musicians Snarky Puppy descended on New Orleans with an assorted stellar guest line up to record the second instalment of their Grammy winning Family Dinner series. I was lucky enough to be in attendance and hence was able to record a series of interviews with members of the band and some of the assorted guests, who included David Crosby (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young), Terence Blanchard, Chris Turner, Nigel Hall, Laura Mvula, Jacob Collier, Becca Stevens, Susana Bacca, Knower, Jamison Ross etc. etc. The first of these can be found in this month's edition.
It was another big month for music and we have new releases from gifted pianist Marc Cary, Grammy winning (Afro Latin Jazz category) band leader Arturo O'Farrill, Farnell Newton (with Jarrod Lawson and Tony Ozier), Rhonda Thomas, Bill Laurance, Saun and Starr, the fantastic singer-saxophonist Carolina Araoz, Carmen Rodgers, Greg Hester and Soul Persona + Princess Freesia.
I also spend some time in the company of Emily Saunders who talks about her new, much acclaimed LP Outsiders Insiders. Coupled with big music from veteran guitarist George Benson, Bugge Wesseltoft, Phronesis, Marc Rapson feat. Liz Elensky and Blue Note signing Jason Moran it all makes for a very exciting listen.
