In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:
From Mexico City : Radio 21 Million
Sharing creative music from mighty magic Mexico City, the center of the world - 2,400 meters high, 21 million hearts big, 100 thousand taxis, a cold and often wicked politic, and a thriving but oft under-appreciated arts scene, it's a city that's alive and vibrant and emerging into the international creative music conscience. With Radio 21 Million, Mexico City based musician Todd Clouser (A Love Electric, Ropeadope Sur) highlights the creative music happening in his adopted hometown by visiting with its artists. Here, musicians become the programmers as we uncover a bit of Mexico City’s jazz past, its eclectic present, and its promise of a future as Latin America’s creative epicentre.
Episode VII
It's a surreal world and Madonna is a surreal girl. It's all true. We are upside down as 40% of my birth country embraces a man who embodies everything they have been exploited by. I barely know what to make of anything except music. Fortunately, we have a lot of great music, and it comes in wild color in Radio 21 Million.
Psychedelia, says the Dictionary is “the realm or artifacts of psychedelic drugs, art, writings, or the like.” I'm adding a synonym - my youth - which I have not yet graduated from. In this Episode, we make good on our promise of MX based music with Sacbe, a band no longer performing that was once a MX jazz scene mainstay featuring the Touissant brothers, who went on to form their own groups, tour with Paul Anca, and curate the world renowned Riviera Maya Jazz Festival. We explore the intersection of jazz and dance with Medeski, Martin and Wood, Herbie Hancock and more with some blues psych from John Mayall and Captain Beefheart (Tropical Hot Dog Night!). Jazz was born as dance music it is said. Charles Mingus fuses Mingus trademarks and cumbia - an art all unto itself as I have learned in my time living in Latin America. I've also dropped a self serving number from my group A Love Electric - a single off our new record called “Jungle Earth” featuring John Medeski and Billy Martin.
If Donald Trump builds a wall, I know what side of it I want to be on. It's where the rest of the world lives.
May the music fly you out into the wild.
Todd
