Another Xmas full of good cheer and goodwill to all men etc. And my contribution to all that? A Xmas stocking absolutely bursting with musical quality (and not a Christmas record in sight).
We chat to Blue Note signee, and José James associate, trumpet player Takuya Kuroda about his life, influences and his debut hit album ‘Rising Son’. We have two big tunes featuring the vocal skills of the incredible jazz veteran Dee Dee Bridgewater, the fantastic voice of the US born but Denmark residing Indra Rios Moore (remember where you heard her first). We’ve new music from Terri Walker, Moscow based producer Lay-Far, the sublime Portia Monique and half an hour of Blue Note magic taking us from the 1960’s to the present day. I’ve also tried to cover all the fusion bases courtesy of the project featuring Snarky Puppy’s Michael League known as Forq, the UK’s off the hook King Bee and legendary keyboardist Chick Corea.
I’m a huge fan of Hammond/Rhodes king Brian Auger and so feature two tracks from him and his 60’s musical partner Julie Driscoll. If that wasn’t enough we feature the new album from the queen of Brazilian vocals Joyce: Raiz.
